Who is in the News: Meet Daniel Lismore, the Eccentric Dresser Who Lives as a Work of Art
This week, unconventional artist, sculptor and activist Daniel Lismore talks to Prestige about famous friendships, beating online trolls and being unapologetically himself:
At 3 o’clock sharp Daniel Lismore cuts a swathe through the foyer of The Lanesborough hotel in London. He’s right on schedule, disproving my apprehension he’d be running on diva-time or, worse, a no-show. I know he’s arrived before he’s within eyeshot: the hum of the bell boys and American tourists falls deadly silent as they stare in open- mouthed awe at the man who Vogue once called “England’s most eccentric dresser”.
“Hi, I’m Daniel” he says sweetly, offering his hand. All my preconceptions of Lismore are dashed in an instant, because in spite of the ultra-maximal appearance, he’s polite and rather charming. He’s quite the sight today wrapped in layers of shimmering fabric in gold and blue, with a sequinned turban and crinkled aluminium wire around his face and a tiara topped with a supersized jewelled wasp. Although he resembles a walking curiosity cabinet, it’s his version of a jeans and T-shirt.
